Katie & The Make-A-Wish Foundation
April 2007 saw Katie and her family enjoy two wonderful days in London.
The trip was thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation....
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. Make-A-Wish was founded in the UK in June 1986 and, since then, have granted over 5,300 wishes.
At any given time, over 20,000 children in the UK are living with life-threatening conditions and their aim is to grant 21 wishes a week by the year 2010. Make-a-Wish provide memories for the family that last a lifetime.
It was the PCN nurses at St.Johns in Chelmsford that introduced Make-A-Wish to Katie and her family. With help from Rob, Katie's Step-dad, the wheels were set in motion and Make-A-Wish visited Katiue and interviewed her.
Katie, among many of her wishes, wanted to see Blue Peter being filmed so a two day stay based around that wish was organised. Two nights were enjoyed in the beautiful five star Langham Hotel in London's West End by Katie's Mum, Dad, Rob, Toby, Charlie and Alison. A chauffuer driven pink limousine drove the party around the sites of London.
Katie enjoyed a trip on the London Eye and then a beautiful pre-lunch river boat cruise along the Thames. Lunch was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Old Park Lane before being driven to the BBC studios. Katie enjoyed waving out of the Limo in true "Royal" style!
At the BBC, our lovely guide Elizabeth, took us all over the BBC including the newsroom, the Blue Peter Garden and then the studio where Blue Peter was being recorded.
Some of the show is recorded but after Katie met the presenters, Zoe Salmon, Andy Akinwolere and Konnie Huq, it was agreed that we could stay and watch the "live" bit. This was an amazing experience and after the show Katie spent a long time chatting with the team and meeting the pets!
The next day, after some retail therapy, (Katie loved to shop!) the party enjoyed a special guided tour around the London Aquarium before an exhausted Katie and party left for home.
Please check out the "Make-a-Wish" gallery for photos of the day and the link to the Make-A-Wish website can be found on our "Links" page.
It is good to know that a special friend of Katie, Daniel Radcliffe, is a big fan of the Make-A-Wish charity and he would know about magic wouldn't he!
