Katie's Birthday - Lakeside Invasion
As predicted we as a family celebrated what would have been Katie's 17th birthday in a manner she definitely would have approved of.
We spent the day at Lakeside shopping, shopping, drinking coffee, eating cakes, shopping, shopping, eating cakes, drinking coffee, shopping and enjoying a nice big dinner!
Katie's Mum, step dad, Katie's Dad and his partner Alison, Katie's half brothers Toby and Charlie and Katie's Auntie Haze all descended on Lakeside and made their first stop a coffee shop.
A plan was hatched, then discarded, and with mobile phones to hand we all drifted aimlessly off into the inner sanctum of Lakeside. Ten minutes later Katie's Dad had got bored of shopping and wanted another coffee break!
Almost sublimally shopping bags began to appear attached to our hands as favourite women's comments such as "But I saved £20" were heard. Katie's Dad even ventured into Lacoste which he assumed is French for over priced!
More shopping was bought, Hawkins Bazaar is a great shop, another coffee break was enjoyed until the final whistle was blown on shopping and the party made their way to the Boardwalk for some din dins which proved once and for all that our respective diets were temporarily suspended on this special day.
Visiting Katie's grave in the morning reminded us of our loss, as if we needed it, but our enjoyment of the day would have brought that beautiful smile to Katie's face.
Katie would have also smiled to know that when typing this up I inadvertently typed "Cakeside" instead of Lakeside!
